My family used to be poor. We depended on cassava, rice, chickens, and pigs for income. The animals rarely succeeded because of disease and lack of knowledge about livestock rearing. We faced a lot of difficulties and were in debt.
After my family was chosen by Samaritan’s Purse to be model farmers in an integrated farming system, we received technical training on livestock and agriculture. The project also provided us with resources such as a chicken house, a pig house, one piglet, vegetable seeds, and fruit trees. Samaritan’s Purse staff members encouraged me to have a rice mill, which provided me with enough food for pigs. In addition, we also learned proper techniques, such as giving pigs vaccinations.
This has made pig rearing our most successful project. We started with only a few pigs, but now we have 22. My dream has come true. This year, I have sold 16 pigs and have 20 more piglets for reproduction. I hope that we will continue to increase our income.
I would like to thank Samaritan’s Purse for always guiding, motivating, and providing knowledge to my family and especially for sharing the love of God with us.
