Household Water Filters Provide a Better Life

Pek San’s husband pours water into the filter to clean it before drinking it.

I used to drink boiled water from the pond. My family spent a lot of money to buy firewood and a lot of time to find it. We knew that drinking dirty water was unsafe. We spent around $40 to $50 per year on medicine, and sometimes we had to spend money to buy water for ourselves and for our son, who is a monk.

One day the village leader came to my house and told me that an organization had come to our village and was providing household water filters. At first, I didn’t have any interest because it was heavy and ugly, and I didn’t think I would be able to move it.

But after a week, my son came to visit me and registered our family to get one. When the filters arrived and villagers began transporting them to their houses, I realized how useful it would be for our family. Two days after I received the filter, a Samaritan’s Purse staff member came to my house to install it for me. He taught me how to use it and how to maintain it.

Since I received the filter, I always drink water from it. My family is now healthy, and we have more money because we don’t have to buy water, firewood, or medicine. We also have more time because we don’t have to take the time to boil water anymore. We’re thankful for this life-changing water from Samaritan’s Purse.
