My husband used to drink often, and he would beat me. My son and I lived in fear. Although my husband had been caught many times by the police, he continued beating me when he was drunk. I didn’t talk to anyone in my village or my neighbors about what was happening. One day, he beat me badly and injured my head. I was angry and wanted a divorce.
Samaritan’s Purse came to our village and invited me to three sessions about family values. I learned about domestic violence and the value of family and family planning from a volunteer in my village. After the sessions had ended, Samaritan’s Purse invited our families to also join in a final session. They taught our husbands through dramas, songs, games, movies, and pictures.
Through this event, my husband has changed his ways. He now treats my son and me better. I’m happy because it’s restored my relationship with him. Samaritan’s Purse staff members have continued to visit our home in order to encourage us and to help us apply what we’ve learned. Through these visits, we have come to know and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
I will continue to share with others and encourage them to join the sessions. I will tell them how it has changed my family’s life.
